Partick Thistle defender Aaron Muirhead has become a YouTube sensation for all the wrong reasons after missing a penalty and then headbutting an opponent in the Ramsdens Cup Final in Scotland.

The clash against Queen of the South went the distance, after a goalless 90 minutes led to extra-time. Nicky Clark then put the Division Two champions ahead, before the real drama unfolded.

With just two minutes of the extra 30 left, Partick – leaders of Division One – were awarded a spot-kick which defender Muirhead stepped-up to take.

However, keeper Lee Robinson tipped the shot over, seemingly ensuring victory for his side. Over-exuberant, several Queen of the South players then celebrated around Muirhead, provoking a fierce headbutt that left Chris Higgins flat on the floor in his own box.

The referee took little time in showing the red card, but incredibly there was more drama to follow, as Kris Doolan scored an unlikely equaliser for the ten-men.

His strike came in injury-time, and was the last kick of the match, forcing a penalty shootout between the two sides at the Almondvale Stadium.

Alas, a miraculous turnaround wasn’t to be for Queen of the South, as their lower-league rivals won 6-5 in the shootout thanks to more heroics from keeper Robinson.

Watch the incredible penalty miss and headbutt in the video below, and let us know if you think Ruud Van Nistelrooy should have done the same against Arsenal all those years ago…
