Tottenham Hotspur face £8m Newcastle fight over French striker

Newcastle United are set to join the race for Tottenham Hotspur striker target Loic Remy.

Metro reports that, should QPR get relegated from the Premier League this season, the Magpies will look to activate a release clause in the Frenchman’s contract.

The Guardian claimed yesterday that the figure required is £8million, with Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas also in pursuit of the 26-year-old former Marseille star.

Alan Pardew was linked with a move for Remy back in January, but missed out on the 18-cap international as he opted for west London instead of Tyneside.

However, the Toon are ready to move once again for the forward, and will look to pair Remy with Papiss Demba Cisse at St James’ Park.

But, the paper claims that Newcastle will also face competition from Aston Villa, in the Hoops go down and the Midlands outfit survive this season's relegation battle.

Spurs, meanwhile, had been linked with moves for Remy on a number of occasions before his switch to Loftus Road, and are once again said to be on the player’s trail.

Were he to move to White Hart Lane, he’d provide some vital support in attack, with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor the only options currently available to the Tottenham Hotspur chief.
