Dutch teen set for Chelsea chance in Europa League

Chelsea could turn to Dutch teenager Nathan Ake in the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Rubin Kazan.

Rafa Benitez is without Ashley Cole through injury, whilst Ryan Bertrand has been struck down by a virus ahead of the trip to Moscow.

And, with few other options available to the Blues chief, defensive-midfielder Ake is set to be thrown it at the deep end against Kurban Berdyev’s side.

Chelsea are looking to protect a 3-1 lead in Russia, with a double from Fernando Torres and smart finish from Victor Moses putting the Premier League side in control.

However, Ake is largely untested, having started just once for the Blues this season in the FA Cup. He’s also made a solitary Premier League appearance, coming off the bench as a 90th minute substitute against Norwich City.

The Dutch U19 international will undoubtedly face his biggest test if he does get the nod to start tomorrow night, and Chelsea will be hoping one of their young stars can rise to the challenge as they chase a second consecutive success in European competition.
