Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has said that his side has “shown they are no joke” after their Champions League exit to Barcelona on away goals.
PSG took the lead in their 1-1 draw with Barca at the Camp Nou, however it wasn’t enough to see the French club through after they drew 2-2 in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, ultimately meaning they lose the tie via the away goals rule.
However Carlo Ancelotti’s side may feel that they could have won the game in Spain after missing a number of chances in the first half, and thus missing out on the opportunity to record a famous win and a second-ever semi-final appearance in the competition.
Despite this, Ibrahimovic feels that his team done themselves proud and that they had proven their credibility as a top European force.
According to ESPN he told reporters: "We've proved that this team is not a joke and that we hope to win trophies soon.
"We played fantastically well and we can be proud of ourselves. The team showed that we could match the best team in the world. We don't deserve to go out - we played two great games.
"A lot of people" had predicted that PSG would lose the tie heavily but the players had surprised them, also adding: "I hope we'll come back stronger. After tonight's match, we've earned respect in Europe."
The Swede was not the only one who felt proud by his team’s performance with PSG’s Camp Nou goalscorer Javier Pastore telling Le Parisien: "We've played Barca over two games and not lost.
"But, at the same time, I'm not getting carried away as this was our first shot at the Champions League in a long time and I'm certain next season will be better.
"Everything that's happened this season has been positive. We're growing, and this game has helped us improve still further."
The Ligue 1 club will now switch their attention to securing domestic success as they look to win the league and French cup double.
