For years, record-breaking Ryan Giggs has been running up and down the flanks for Manchester United, making mesmerising runs, foot entangling dribbles and scoring sublime goals, but has Sir Alex Ferguson found someone to fill his shoes when his playing days come to an end?
Who will rise up to the challenge?
Indeed, playing Nani on the left flank has yielded some results, but on an inconsistent basis. As for Ashley Young, he has struggled for form of late and does not come close to Giggs in terms of ability.
Manchester United have lacked the incisive runs from the Giggs of old as well as the speed and accuracy of his passes. Though his conversion to central midfield has been met with a mixed reaction from fans and pundits alike, he has, so far this season, proved that he can still deliver stunning performances, with the Champions league clash with Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid as case in point.
If Ferguson is willing to get the very best left-winger on the market with technical ability, speed, accuracy and power, there can be only one man. Step forward, Gareth Bale.
Tottenham's talisman is the ideal replacement for Giggs and is a worthwhile long-term investment, providing United can tempt Spurs into parting with their most prized asset.
If Bale does become available, there will be no shortage of potential suitors, with Real Madrid and Barcelona just two of Europe's elite linked with the Welsh wing wizard.
Should a move to United come to fruition, Bale is more than capable of emulating Giggs and who knows, perhaps he will become an Old Trafford great like the man whose shoes he'd be tasked with filling?
