100 metre world record-holder Usain Bolt is to compete at Rome's Golden Gala on June 6, according to the official IAAF website.

Local organisers have confirmed that the six-time Olympic champion will aim to win his third consecutive title at the Stadio Olimpico.

On his previous two races at the meeting, Bolt first ran 9.91 seconds in 2011 and then smashed the meeting record with a time of 9.76 last year.

It is the start of a busy European schedule for Bolt which culminates with the World Championships in Moscow from August 10.

The fastest man in history will be looking to repeat the feat that he achieved at last year's London Olympics where he won the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m.

Bolt will also run at the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway, on June 13, the Golden Spike in the Czech city of Ostrava on June 27 and the Areva Meeting in Paris on July 6.
