Wigan Warriors head coach Shaun Wane has hit-back at claims made from Widnes boss Denis Betts that the Warriors are petrified of Gareth Hock.

Hock is on a season-long loan from the Warriors and they are not allowing him to play against them on Saturday.

"We don't make stupid and ridiculous comments, like Denis has done," he said to Sky Sports.

"Obviously that decision has been made and Widnes have to deal with it."

Wane did admit that the decision was not up to him and that he wouldn't have minded if Hock had been available for the clash.

"It was something chairman Ian Lenagan wanted to put into the contract. I wasn't involved with that.

"I'm not bothered whether Gaz plays or not."

Hock left Wigan in January after seven years with the club, but a lengthy injury list mixed with his departure has given Wane a thin squad for the Vikings match.

Despite England full-back Sam Tomkins looking set to return, Lee Mossop, Paul Prescott, Gil Dudson, Epalahame Lauaki and Harrison Hansen are all ruled out.

Sean O'Loughlin and Chris Tuson could also miss the game after picking up knocks against Leeds. However, Wane is determined to not let the injuries affect his side and is fully confident of getting the result.

He said: "We are down to the bare bones at the minute but we need to get on with it.

"If we show the same desire showed at Leeds and play with a bit more composure on attack and a bit more concentration on defence, then we'll be okay."
