It's not often that a goal of the season contender is scored in August, but Gareth Bale produced just that when he latched on to Aaron Lennon's chipped ball to unleash a stunning left-foot volley into the far top corner.

The Welsh winger had already diverted a deflected effort past Thomas Sorenson in the Stoke goal, but it was his second strike that rightly grabbed all the headlines with the brace securing a 2-1 victory for Spurs at the Britannia.
