A tournament featuring some of the most prominent teams in world football is set to be announced at a press conference on Tuesday, and will take place this summer across both Europe and the United States.

The exact format of the competition and the teams involved remain a mystery but, it is claimed, eight of the most famous teams on the planet will be competing, with proceedings set to begin on July 27 and finish on August 7.

It has been reported, however, that no Premier League teams are expected to take part, with the domestic season set to kick-off 10 days after the tournament ends in Miami.

Europe will play host to the opening fixtures of the eight team tournament, before later opening round matches take place across the pond in Phoenix, San Francisco and Indianapolis.

The semi-finals are scheduled to take place in New York and Los Angeles on August 3 and 4, before it reaches its climax in Florida, with some suggestions the final may take place at the home of the Miami Dolphins.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is part of the team behind the tournament, which has been organised by Relevant Sports, and coverage of the matches is set to reach 151 countries.

The teams involved are reported to have signed multi-year contracts to confirm their participation for several summers, and the tournament will include clubs from four countries - including the United States.
