Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he rushed Jack Wilshere back from injury.
The Frenchman also revealed that he will be taking advice when handling Wilshere's fitness in the future after the midfielder recently returned from another injury lay-off.
The English midfielder sat out of four games because of an ankle injury that he picked up during Arsenal's 2-1 derby defeat to Tottenham, but he made his return in the side's 3-1 victory over Norwich City at the weekend.
The young midfielder missed 17 months of his career because of a continuos ankle injury which he picked up in the summer of 2011, but has impressed with how he has settled back into the starting line-up after making his long-awaited return.
After featuring in nearly every game since his return, Wilshere then picked up an ankle injury which sidelined him for three weeks, but he has since returned to the starting line-up.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has now revealed that he might have over-played the 21-year-old, but has also insisted that he will take more care over his fitness in the future.
“I rushed Jack back a bit, he was not completely ready,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “How careful must I be? To listen well to the medical advice and that is what I have to do.
“Use him when everything is alright and listen to him as well, how he feels. He has been out for six weeks, so maybe it was a bit too rushed what I did.
“He has practised with me since he was 16, so I know quite well how his body responds to things.”
