Barcelona are considering Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney as a possible centre-forward option this summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Camp Nou management were incredibly concerned about the performance of the side while Lionel Messi has been injured.
The report claims Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova and the club’s money men are convinced they need to recruit a more traditional central striker.
One of the options mooted is Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, with the report citing the England striker’s admiration for Messi and his teammates as a possible boost to a transfer.
Sir Alex Ferguson has denied Rooney will be leaving in the summer but rumours of a possible departure have persisted.
The Manchester United star has been linked with a switch to Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona would struggle to match their financial muscle.
Other names mentioned are Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez and Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski.
The report also claims the hunt for a striker will not affect Barcelona’s pursuit of Brazil superstar Neymar.
