Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique believes Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho will become a Premier League star if he can build on his first couple of months at Anfield.

Coutinho moved to Brendan Rodgers' side from Italian giants Inter Milan in January for a deal worth up to £9.5million.

The 20-year-old midfielder has made an instant impact at Liverpool by scoring two goals and claiming three assists since his arrival at Anfield.

Enrique, speaking to the Liverpool Echo, said: "He's a very good player, you can see his amazing talent and he's still really young.

"If he improves after what he has been doing already he is going to be a top player for us. He's a really calm player; he doesn't talk much but he's always joking."

Rodgers will be hoping Coutinho can help the Reds to a top six finish as they look to finish above bitter rivals Everton and finish the campaign as strongly as possible.

Welsh tactician Rodgers admitted earlier in the week that he needs to spend big in the summer -  despite spending over £50million on the likes of Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Joe Allen since joining the north-west club from Swansea City.
