Chelsea ready summer transfer plans with Radamel Falcao & Mario Gomez

Chelsea have set out their stall for the summer and have decided Radamel Falcao is the top target, with Mario Gomez as the next in line of targets.

According to the Daily Express, Blues owner Roman Abramovich and his scouts have put the Atletico Madrid forward at the top of their list of summer transfer targets.

Chelsea have long been linked with a bid for Falcao and the report claims any deal will likely be a new British transfer record.

This is because Falcao’s release clause is in the region of £60million and any bid will likely exceed the £50million it took to bring Fernando Torres to Stamford Bridge.

However, Manchester United last week emerged as contenders for his signature, with reports in Spain claiming they had begun advanced talks over a deal.

Chelsea will be desperate not to lose out to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in the pursuit of their main transfer target, but have contingency plans in place.

The report claims Blues scouts have made bit-part Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez their fall back option.

Gomez has had to play second fiddle to Mario Mandzukic this season and the Bavarians record-breaking form has meant he has found starting opportunities more difficult to come by than in previous seasons.

The Germany striker is still very highly rated, however, and the report claims Chelsea see him as a less expensive viable option.
