Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has rejected an apology from Luis Suarez after the Liverpool striker bit him.

According to the Guardian, Ivanovic took a phone call from Suarez after the match but did not go so far as to accept his apology.

Suarez was caught biting the Serbia international’s arm by television cameras during the game at Anfield on Sunday, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Chelsea’s anger over the incident was compounded by the fact that Liverpool’s 97th minute equaliser was scored by Suarez.

The report claims Metropolitan Police visited the Blues training ground and asked to examine Ivanovic’s arm.

As with Stamford Bridge medical staff, the visiting Police officer could find no lasting bite marks or bruises and Ivanovic declined when asked if he wanted to press charges.

The FA confirmed on Monday they would be charging Suarez with violent conduct but that the Uruguayan could expect more than the standard three-match ban.

The statement from the FA claimed the normal punishment was "clearly insufficient in these circumstances”.
