The semi-final draw of the Champions League has set up a mouth watering tie as Spanish champions Real Madrid face reigning German champions Borussia Dortmund.
The two clubs were also drawn together in the group stages of the competition and the edge of domination may just tip in towards Borussia in context of the two games that have already been played.
Jurgen Klopps’ men arguably bettered the champions of Spain over the course of the two matches in the group stages but now the prize at offer may just prove too big to falter the Blancos’ progress.
Real Madrid have long haunted the prestigious La Decima crown and many fans believe that this might just be their year, with things going almost perfectly for the Spaniards.
The Santiago Bernabeu based side crashed out of the competition last year at the same stage, falling victim to German opposition in the face of Bayern Munich.
Sergio Ramos, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo all failed to find the back of the net in the penalty shootout at the Bernabeu and that sent Bayern en-root to the final against English opposition Chelsea.
Real’s Portuguese central defender Pepe wants the long awaited crown to end up in the hands of the Santiago Bernabeu faithful and believes that luck may well play a big part in the proceedings of the tie.
At the Real Madrid supporters club, Pepe told reporters: "Wednesday's game is incredibly important for us - everybody in the squad is conscious of that.
"We must go into the game at full throttle but not be over hasty. We should try to remain composed because we have the return leg at home.
"Failure is a very strong word to use should we not win this semi-final.
"We will be going out to win and hopefully with that extra bit of luck which we didn't have at this stage last year.”
The first leg is set to be played in Germany on the night of Wednesday and the world may stop to witness two of the finest teams take to the field with so much at stake.
