Manchester City face competition from Roma in the battle to land Frank De Boer, according to reports.

TalkSPORT claims the Ajax chief is the main target for the Citizens, with speculation growing over Roberto Mancini’s future following the loss of the title to local rivals Manchester United.

De Boer has admitted he’d love to take over at the Etihad Stadium, according to the report, but now the Italian giants have also joined the chase for the 42-year-old’s signature.

Roma have been in a state of flux in recent times, with five managers in the past 26 months at the Stadio Olimpico.

Aurelio Andreazzoli is currently in charge of the Serie ‘A’ outfit, but De Boer is seen as the man to offer ‘long-term stability’, according to the radio station.

Manchester City have the financial power to out-muscle their rivals if they do decide to replace Mancini in the summer, and De Boer is a strong candidate given his impressive record at the Amsterdam Arena.
