Liverpool centre back Martin Skrtel is ‘too expensive’ for Arsenal, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claims the Gunners are in the market for a defender, but won’t be able to pursue the Slovakian because of his high price tag on Merseyside.

Instead, the paper suggests that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen on bringing Federico Fazio to the club, whilst Ashley Williams is also linked with a £12million move to the Emirates Stadium.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has also been linked with a move for the Swansea City defender, having previously worked with the 28-year-old during his time at the Liberty Stadium.

The Anfield outfit will be short of options at the back next season, with Jamie Carragher set to retire after 13-years with the Reds.

And, losing Skrtel to a Premier League rival such as Arsenal would be a disaster for Rodgers, leaving just Daniel Agger and Sebastian Coates at his disposal for the following campaign.

However, the former Zenit star looks set to stay at Liverpool, leaving both clubs to consider their options.
