Barcelona ace Lionel Messi has said that opponents Bayern Munich's strong performance was the reason for his side suffering heavy defeat  on Tuesday evening and insists he was fit for the match.

"I had been out for a while without playing since the injury, but I felt fine," Messi speaking in a  post match press conference said

"I could not do much about the result, it was a pity. They have shown they are stronger, they beat us in everything, You could see on the pitch that they were superior."

The Argentinian talisman was starting his first match since picking up a thigh injury against Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-final first leg and was anything but his normal explosive self on the pitch.

Messi was restricted to a 30 minute cameo against PSG in the second leg, which was enough for the little master to inspire his team to victory.

Barca will need more Messi magic next week thought if they hope to progress against the newly crowned German champions.

When it comes to the Catalan giants, anything is possible, however 'La Pulga' has admitted his side have a near impossible task of reaching Wembley on May 25.

"It will be a very difficult game at the Camp Nou, to come back from 4-0 down," he said.

"But we must go for it and try and achieve it. They are good, but we will try. If we cannot do that then, well, we will have to think about next year."
