Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been urged to snub transfer interest from Manchester City and stay at the club.

The Citizens see the Swedish striker as a viable transfer alternative to Edinson Cavani, according to talkSPORT, and are looking to strengthen in the position following Mario Balotelli’s exit from the Etihad Stadium back in January.

However, teammate Thiago Silva is hopeful that Ibrahimovic will stay at the Parc des Princes this summer, having helped the club claim top spot in Ligue 1.

"I hope Zlatan will stay at PSG. He can help the team and the club grow. I really want him to stay put," the Brazilian centre back told Le 10 Sport.

"I have not yet had the opportunity to talk to him about whether he has already made a decision on his future.

"He's a normal guy who always wants to win. He gets angry when things don't go well. Sometimes this is a good thing and sometimes it isn't. I see him as a positive guy, though, who gives strength to the team."

Ibrahimovic has been one of football’s most colourful characters for over a year, winning titles with Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona and AC Milan. Success with PSG now looks likely to follow.

However, the 31-year-old has never been tested in the Premier League, and has also never lifted the Champions League trophy.

Manchester City would hope to offer a chance to do both, although Roberto Mancini’s side crashed out of Europe’s elite club competition this season in the group stages.

Their grip on the domestic title has also slipped, with arch rivals Manchester United taking the crown back from their ‘noisy neighbours’ this season.

The arrival of Ibrahimovic would certainly give Manchester City a lift ahead of the following campaign, but Silva’s comments suggest PSG have done anything but give up on the talismanic forward.
