Football News

Robin van Persie spent eight years at Arsenal, so it’s understandable that arriving at Emirates Stadium on matchday has an element of routine to it.

It looks like this routine was hard to shake off when Manchester United visited the Gunners on Sunday in the Premier League.

Van Persie was saying hello to all his friends at Emirates Stadium after arriving when he made something of a gaff.

The former Arsenal skipper forgot who he was playing for and tried to go into the home dressing room.

A member of staff was on hand to hint otherwise and the Holland international soon realised – slapping his own face in embarrassment.

Van Persie’s switch to Old Trafford in the summer angered many Arsenal fans, but the Dutchman has always insisted he still feels very fondly for the club.

The 29-year-old further exhibited this after scoring the penalty Manchester United that made the score 1-1, which was the final score.

Van Persie got into the Arsenal dressing room eventually, as he visited his old teammates after the game.
