Gareth Bale has played down suggestions he could leave Tottenham at the end of the season - saying he pays no attention to the 'speculation' that surrounds him.

Bale became only the third player ever to win the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year awards together last night - just reward for a stunning season in north London.

The Welshman has 19 Premier League goals to his name so far this season and has helped Tottenham remain in contention for a top four spot and Champions League qualification with four games to go.

His form has not gone unnoticed with Real Madrid reportedly ready to make a move for him in the summer.

However Bale says he is not interest in newspaper speculation, and is instead focusing on helping Spurs make it into the top four.

"I just take no notice, it's all speculation, I can't do anything about it," said after collecting his awards last night.

"I just concentrate on my football and play as well as I can and do my best for the team."

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas was full of praise for Bale afterwards, and said the 23-year-old bore an uncanny similarity to Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

There are similarities [between the two]," the Portuguese boss said. "Both are extremely technical, powerful and pacy.

"They grew up as strikers, but became wingers. Gareth is now playing a more advanced role. Ronaldo is also able to play that role up front."

Spurs' pursuit of Champions League football was dealt a blow on Saturday as they could only muster a 2-2 draw with Wigan - however Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Manchester United means their destiny is still in their own hands.

They face Southampton at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
