Arsenal are being linked with a shock summer move for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Sun claims Arsene Wenger is ready to offer £10million for the Frenchman, who is being targeted as a replacement for Abou Diaby at the Emirates Stadium.

Schneiderlin joined the Saints five-years ago, with the south-coast club signing the 23-year-old from Strasbourg for £1.2million.

Wenger has been monitoring the player ever since, according to the report, and has a track record of bringing players to north London from the St. Mary’s stadium.

Theo Walcott joined the Gunners as a talented teenager back in 2006, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain following in the England winger’ footsteps five years later.

But, whilst neither had Premier League experience, Schneiderlin has proved himself in the English top flight this season, producing a string of fine performances for both Nigel Adkins and Mauricio Pochettino.

A former Les Bleus U21 international, a move to Arsenal could push the player into international contention with France.

However, Schneiderlin signed a new contract with the Saints in February, and is tied to the club until 2017. That means the Gunners won’t be able to land the player on the cheap if they do decide to pursue his signature in the summer.
