Jose Enrique has become a consistent member of the Liverpool defence and aims to follow in the footsteps of Jamie Carragher, the man who will swap the pitch for the comfy chairs of the television studio at end of the campaign.

"One of the reasons I came here was Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and now Luis Suarez," the 27-year-old told LFC TV in the latest edition of 'Life Through a Lens'.

The former Newcastle defender, a core member of the Toon side which won the Npower Championship title back in 2010, paid testament to his retiring teammate Carragher, admitting he's perfect role model on Merseyside.

"You have to respect the past he has had here - he's a player that has played 700 games. It's not lucky, he deserves it. He has been an amazing player for Liverpool for many years and he's an example for any player here," added the Spaniard.

It's been revealed that 'Carra' will link up with the Sky Sports punditry team next season, and he is unliked to feel out of place sitting next to Graeme Souness and Jamie Redknapp - two ex-Liverpool stars.

There might be a few healthy 50/50 challenges with Gary Neville when they discuss football and do battle with the English language, however, with the former Manchester United full-back now seen as one of the best pundits in the business.

Jose Enrique went on to reveal that joining Liverpool was the best decision he's made during his career, and will hope for long-term success at Anfield.

"Of course, I already played for a good club at Newcastle, but you can't compare one club with the other in terms of history," he concluded.

"It was really quick; I knew there was interest from before the summer. When they started talking to Newcastle about how much I was going to go for, it was one or two days to sort it out. I told them I wanted to come here.

"I'm really happy with my decision to be here; it's my second season and I'm playing a lot, like last year. I'm improving a lot as a player and a person as well."
