Manchester United are preparing to move early on in the summer transfer market as the club look to improve their squad ahead of their 2013/14 title defence.
According to the Telegraph that could include moving on a host of players including Nani and Anderson, who have fallen down the pecking order this term.
The pair, who arrived at Old Trafford at the same time in 2007, have been unable to establish themselves and could be sold, while Paul Scholes is expected to retire once more.
There are also doubts about Wayne Rooney's long-term future at the club which could see the England international leave Old Trafford, although that appears unlikely.
Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he would be unable to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea in the transfer market come the end of the season, but revealed the club have already been actively seeking to recruit players.
"Hopefully, the players we bring into the club in the next year or so will be of the quality we need,” Ferguson said. “We’re competitive in the market – we’re not Chelsea or Manchester City in terms of money but we’re competitive.
“We’ve been doing a bit of work on recruitment over the last three or four months, targeting who the players are that we feel could enhance us, make us better or help us maintain the level we’re at.”
Manchester United could target a host of players as they look to improve their squad for next season in order to maintain challenges in domestic and European competitions.
The Telegraph suggest Porto starlet James Rodriguez remains a target as does Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski, while a move for Tottenham's Gareth Bale could be on the cards if the Welshman opts to leave White Hart Lane - although that appears unlikely for now.
Everton full-back Leighton Baines has also been on the Red Devils radar for some time, while Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha has already signed on the dotted line and will arrive at Old Trafford in the summer.
