Tottenham target £32m Brazilian forward as Bale replacement

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has called upon chairman Daniel Levy to splash the cash on Zenit St. Petersburg forward Hulk.

The Brazilian has endured an unhappy season in Russia since joining from Villas-Boas' former side Porto in the summer, and is believed to be on the lookout for a move at the end of the season.

Villas-Boas was pictured talking to Hulk during the Olympic Games in London last summer amidst rumours he was trying to take the powerful forward to White Hart Lane, having also tried to land him during his time as Chelsea boss.

Now the Evening Standard report that Villas-Boas is ready to try agin for Hulk, and has asked Levy to back him in the transfer market by making a big-money offer for the Brazilian.

The paper also claim Hulk would be viewed as a potential replacement for Gareth Bale, who has been linked with a big-money move to Real Madrid.

Hulk, a powerful forward who can also operate out wide, cost Zenit £32 million when he moved to Russia - a fee they will be hopeful of largely recuperating should he move on.

The former Tokyo Verdy forward has been the victim of racist abuse during his time at Zenit, and was also at the centre of a row between players over astronomical wages being paid to new signings.

He has previously spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League, and will likely be keen on linking up with Villas-Boas once more.

"I love the Premier League," he said last year. "The Premier League is a great competition with great clubs. If I have time, I watch the matches on television.”

The Evening Standard report any deal wouldn't necessarily depend on Spurs generating the cash required through Champions League qualification - the bumper new TV deal next season plus a potential swap including Emmanuel Adebayor could be enough.
