Crystal Palace sealed their place in the Championship play-offs with a 3-2 victory that sent Peterborough United down to League One.

Mile Jedinak scored a late winner for the Eagles, nodding home from close range after a controversial free-kick was given against Dwight Gayle.

Posh had taken the lead with a stunning individual strike from Lee Tomlin, but Glenn Murray's penalty in first-half stoppage time made the scores level.

Gabriel Zakuani gave away the spot kick, and will rue his clumsy challenge on Danny Gabbidon.

The visitors were brightest at the start of the second period however, and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing made the advantage count with another fine solo effort.

He cut inside from the right flank before bending the ball past Julian Speroni, although the Palace stopper could have done better with the effort.

That scoreline would guarantee Posh safety irrespective of other results, and in the end Darren Ferguson's side got no help from elsewhere as things turned against them in the closing stages.

Kevin Phillips showed his experience to swivel in the box and beat Bobby Olejnik, before Jedinak made the telling late contribution to secure a top six finish.

Palace will now play Brighton in the play-offs, whilst Peterborough will be wondering how they've gone down on 54 points.

Barnsley survive with their draw at Huddersfield, whilst Leicester City made it into the play-offs with their 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest and Bolton's failure to beat Blackpool.
