Chelsea are on the verge of sealing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Andre Schürrle after the German club revealed he has 'probably' already signed a pre-contract with the Blues.

Chelsea have long been linked with a move for the German youngster, and have been close to sealing the deal for some time now.

However it appears to have been held up because of the involvement of Kevin de Bruyne as a makeweight.

The young Belgian, currently on loan with Werder Bremen, is said to be keen on a move to Borussia Dortmund rather than Leverkusen - something which could bump Schurrle's price up to over £20 million if he isn't part of the deal.

Despite the technical hitches, Leverkusen general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser says he believes the player has already agreed terms with Chelsea as they ponder over whether to let him leave and for how much.

“Andre Schurrle has probably signed a pre-contract deal with Chelsea,” he said.

"It all depends on whether we let him go. We have received a concrete offer for a fee which we are considering.

“But the price alone is not decisive. We must also have alternatives, which we don’t have yet.”

Leverkusen remain keen on De Bryune, who Chelsea would allow to join the German club on loan next term - but the interest of Dortmund could see him head to the current Bundesliga champions permanently.

“He [De Bruyne]  still has a few talks to hold with Chelsea,” Holzhauser explained.

“It looks like there is an offer from Dortmund to sign the player for a relatively high fee.

“According to our information, Chelsea don’t want to sell him but just loan him out.
