Chelsea’s chances of landing Atletico Madrid superstar Radamel Falcao have increased after Real Madrid pulled out of the race to sign him.

According to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, Falcao looks most likely to join Chelsea, but Manchester United have also been linked with a possible bid for him.

The report claims Real Madrid president Florentino Perez decided to end his interest after Falcao’s agent refused to lower his €8million-a-year salary demands.

Stamford Bridge oligarch Roman Abramovich is one of the few owners in world football that could afford such a huge salary.

Falcao could be one of the first signings in Jose Mourinho’s second stint as Chelsea manager, who have been heavily linked with a Stamford Bridge return this summer.

Current Chelsea strikers Fernando Torres and Demba Ba have failed to fire up front this season and purchasing Falcao would go some way to rectifying that.

The Colombia international has been electric form this season once again, scoring 32 goals in all competitions.
