Disallowed goal infuriates Everton boss David Moyes

Everton manager David Moyes was angry at the final whistle of Sunday’s 0-0 Merseyside derby draw at Anfield after his side had a goal disallowed by referee Michael Oliver.

Moyes thought Everton had taken a second half lead through defender Sylvain Distin, before Oliver adjudged that striker Victor Anichebe had fouled Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina in the build-up.

Moyes told the Liverpool Echo: “It was a goal, a legitimate goal. “The referee said that Victor impeded the goalkeeper, but it was actually the goalkeeper who ran into him so it can’t possibly be a free kick.”

The goalless draw means that Everton are still yet to register an away at any of the so-called top four since the Scot’s appointment in 2002.

“It’s frustrating because people are quite quick to remind me that I haven’t won here at Anfield, but if you don’t get any decisions, it’s very hard to win here. And that is quite a regular occurrence when we come to Anfield,” added Moyes.

Centre-half Phil Jagielka put in another impressive display in front of England coach Ray Lewington in what was a lacklustre affair between the two rivals.  Moyes believes the former Sheffield United man can be an England regular if he had more self-belief in his ability.

“When you look at the situation with England at the moment, it's there for him to go and say 'pick me',” said Moyes. “He's been absolutely superb for us - he can be a real leader and always gives everything in every game he plays in.”

Everton play West Ham in their penultimate game of the campaign before facing off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the final day of the season.
