Chelsea activate €24m La Liga star release clause

Chelsea have moved closer to landing Atletico Madrid star Arda Turan after activating a €24 million release clause written into his contract, according to reports in Turkey.

The 25-year-old joined Madrid for a fee of around €12 million in 2011, and has been integral to their push for Champions League qualification this season.

Now according to reports in Turkey, Chelsea have activated his release clause and will look to take him to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The move for Turan may come as a shock to Chelsea fans as the Blues already possess a wide array of attacking talent, and have already been linked with moves for Bayer Leverkusen's Andre Schürrle as well as the Turkish international's club team-mate Radamel Falcao.

However the fact he can play out wide could be appealing to the Blues, who appear short of natural width and have been forced to deploy the likes of Eden Hazard and and Juan Mata away from their favoured positions this season.

Turan has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool.
