Talking at the FIFA Interactive World Cup, Sky Sports pundit Alan McInally feels that "it is no surprise that Bayern Munich have gone a little bit further this year."
And he is not wrong, the German side have romped to a 22nd Bundesliga title, whilst also making it to the Champions League final for the second year in a row.
The Scotsman though, singled out one man that has made all the difference this year, saying: "Because they now have Javi Martinez. I think he has been revolutionary in the way Bayern play, he doesn't really get forward. He's protection and allows Schweinsteiger to be more creative." So although Bayern get a lot of plaudits for their attacking ability, McInally feels this is because of the superb protection the flair players receive from the Spanish midfielder.
The former Celtic and Bayern Munich striker also praised his former manager for recognising the need to change the way he sets his team up. "Jupp Heynckes was my coach at Bayern Munich. But he's changed his philosophy. I signed in 1989 and we played 4-4-1-1. He (Heynckes) would tell us to come back to the halfway line, to concede possession and make it really tight and compact so we were difficult to beat.
"I think modern football is now about, Manchester City do this brilliantly, Manchester United not so much, but they press the ball, press the ball early."
Pressing the ball high seems to be increasingly implemented by many teams across the globe, but after their 7-0 aggregate win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, it is Bayern who are executing it to perfection.
