Chelsea defender David Luiz has a reputation for being a bit of a prankster, and he was caught on camera getting up to more mischief in last night's 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

With the hosts 2-1 up in the second half of Wednesday's Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge, Andre Villas-Boas wanted to relay tactical instructions to Spurs midfielder Lewis Holtby.

But, as the Portuguese tactician passed on his message, the private exchange was interrupted by the Brazilian who listened in to the touchline chatter between opposition player and manager.

As Holtby and Luiz headed back onto the pitch, Luiz proceeded to nod sarcastically as if he had fully taken on board Villas-Boas's request, prompting a chuckle and a smirk from his German counterpart.

But, despite the Chelsea star's joviality, it was Tottenham who had the last laugh, after Gylfi Sigurdsson's 80th minute equaliser ensured a share of the spoils on AVB's first return to the west London club since he was sacked by chairman Roman Abramovich in March 2012.

The result keeps both clubs in the hunt for Champions League qualification, with Chelsea occupying third place with 69 points and two games remaining, while Spurs sit fifth, three points behind, separated by north London rivals Arsenal on 67 points.

Villas-Boas was asked about the touchline incident involving himself, Holtby and Luiz in his post-match press conference, which garnered the following response.

"[David Luiz] is my friend. It's part of his character," he said.
