David Beckham has paid tribute to Sir Alex Ferguson following the announcement the Manchester United manager will retire at the end of the season.

Beckham has thanked Ferguson for the influence he has had on his career, and says the Scot has been like a father figure to him from the age of 11.

Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez, meanwhile, says he will miss being able to challenge himself against Ferguson when the 71-year-old retires.

Benitez and Ferguson have endured a difficult relationship over the years, but the Spaniard has wished his Manchester United counterpart all the best.

Andre Villas-Boas remains hopeful Tottenham will be able to clinch a place in next season's Champions League, following a 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Wednesday.
