Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a summer move for Sevilla centre-back Alberto Botia, according to the Daily Mail.

The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with Wigan Athletic and Swansea City both monitoring his situation in Spain.

However, they will now face increased competition for the Spaniard's signature, after Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas emerged as an admirer.

With William Gallas set to leave White Hart Lane at the end of the season, and growing concerns over Steven Caulker's long-term future in north London, the Portuguese tactician is looking to strengthen his defensive options when the transfer window reopens on July 1.

The former Barcelona trainee has made just 13 starts in La Liga this season since signing for Sevilla last summer, but has still attracted attention from a number of English clubs.

After leaving Camp Nou in 2010, Botia enjoyed a two-year spell with Sporting Gijon - initially on loan - before being snapped up by Los Rojiblancos in 2012.
