Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is not a transfer target for Brazilian side Flamengo, according to the club's vice president Wallim Vasconcellos.

The Old Trafford centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season, and has been linked with a number of clubs.

Ferdinand may yet agree terms on a new Manchester United contract after helping the club to another Premier League title, and he has made it clear he wants to stay on with United into next season.

But in any case, Wallim Vasconcellos, Flamengo's vice president, has ruled out his club making a move for the defender.

Speaking to Radio Tupi, as reported by Sky Sports, Vasconcellos said: "There is nothing about Rio Ferdinand."

And Flamengo's director of football Paulo Pelaipe appeared to support the vice president's claims.

Speaking to Lancenet, Pelaipe said: "I haven't talked to anybody about it, and the board haven't told me anything on the subject."

Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar is another to be linked with the Brazilian side, but Vasconcellos insists Cesar is not one of the club's transfer targets.

"Julio Cesar is a great goalkeeper and could play for any team, but he is not one of our concerns right now," continued Vasconcellos.
