Jose Mourinho's return to Chelsea has moved another step closer after Paris St Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirmed Real Madrid have approached the French club over a move for Carlo Ancelotti, according to the Daily Mail.

By sounding out Ancelotti's interest in joining the Bernabeu club, it would seem Mourinho's reign at Real Madrid is drawing to a close.

The former-Chelsea boss has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge, and the report claims the latest revelations push Mourinho closer to a Blues reunion.

Speaking to L'Equipe, Al-Khelaifi said: "A few days ago, the general manager of Real Madrid [Jose Angel Sanchez] contacted me to talk to [Ancelotti].

"Very quickly, I told them: 'If you want to have Carlo, you need to know that he has a year left on his contract, so please respect the contract.'

"We respect all clubs, we expect the same in return. Today we do not have the same stature as Real Madrid, but we do deserve the same respect.

"He apologised and told me he had thought Ancelotti's contract was expiring but I told him that was wrong and that Carlo has another year with us. He told me they would take that into account."

Ancelotti guided PSG to their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years this season after taking charge of the club in December 2011.

And Madrid's desire to bring him to the Bernabeu hints at their unhappiness with Mourinho.

The club's only chance of a trophy this season remains the Copa Del Rey, after they were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage and conceded their La Liga title to rivals Barcelona.

But PSG look set to hold firm after rebuffing this initial move from the Spanish giants for their manager.
