Muntari wrestles with referee to avoid red card

Sulley Muntari lost the plot during AC Milan's stormy 0-0 draw with Roma over the weekend, manhandling the referee in an attempt to stop himself being sent off.

The former Portsmouth star looked like he had said something to the ref following a strong tackle from Mario Balotelli, and was on the verge of either recieving a second yellow or a straight red.

Inexplicably he decided the best thing to do was to try and restrain referee Gianluca Rocchi from getting his cards out of his pocket by holding onto his wrists. When the referee shook himself free, the Ghanian returned, bear-hugging him to restrict him once more.

Given that there was about 50 minutes of the game left, his chances of restraining him until full-time were limited, and eventually after some Roma players intervened, the red card was administered.

That was just one of a series of unsavoury incidents in the fiery 0-0 draw at the San Siro.

Roma legend Franceso Totti saw red himself in the dying seconds of the game for an elbow, while the contest had earlier been stopped by the referee because of racist abuse from Roma fans aimed towards Mario Balotelli among others. Check out all the videos below.
