Arsenal are close to securing a deal for Aston Villa starlet Danny Crowley, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claims Gunners chief Arsene Wenger has given the go-ahead to pursue a deal for the 16-year-old, who has been dubbed the new Jack Wilshere.

Arsenal scouts have been tracking the player for several months, according to the report, with Crowley impressing for both the Villains and England.

Indeed, Premier League rivals Manchester City have also been linked with a move for a player who shone bright for the Three Lions during the Victory Shield.

Wenger has a track record of bringing top young players to the Emirates Stadium, with teenagers Carl Jenkinson, Ignasi Miquel, Ryo Miyaichi, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and all arriving in north London in recent times.

Crowley could be the next starlet to join the Arsenal production line, and with the Wilshere tag already placed on his head, expectation will be high in the capital if he moves away from Paul Lambert at Villa Park.
