Leeds Rhinos captain expects instant response against Saints

Leeds captain Kevin Sinfield is looking for an instant response from his side following their Challenge Cup defeat at the hands of the Huddersfield Giants.

The Rhinos weren’t at the races when they travelled to the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday, crashing out of the competition at the fifth round stage with a 24-8 defeat.

The loss also ended an eight-game winning streak that’s seen Leeds move back into the mix at the top of the Super League table, and Sinfield knows the performance levels will need to improve when Saints visit Headingley this weekend.

"We have to bounce back, but I don't think talking about time off will do us any good at this stage. We just have to get ready to work hard and prepare for a tough game against Saints next week,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"I don't think it would matter who we play next, Super League is so tight and tough. It will be nice to be back home after being on the road for a few weeks and hopefully we can get a good following and put in a much better performance."

Sinfield also refused to admit that being knocked out of the Challenge Cup was a blessing in disguise, with the Rhinos now set to have three ‘free’ weekends in the coming months.

Leeds have been runners-up in the competition for the last three years, and the disappointment of failing to make the last eight was evident in Sinfield’s response.

"It's not something I want to think about," Sinfield told the paper when asked about the extra rest time.

"I enjoy playing every week. Perhaps we'll address it this week and talk about it, but at this minute in time it's too disappointing.”

The Rhinos are currently fourth in Super League, four points off top spot with two games in-hand.
