As the transfer window nears, many clubs in the Premier League will be looking to raise funds or strengthen their side.
The new Financial Fair Play rules that are coming in could spell an exodus of stars in order the balance the books. For others it’s just simply a case of not having the financial power to match the big four.
Players like Michu have proven this season that a summer bargain can reap rewards. Players such as Celtic’s Gary Hooper, Reading’s Hal Robson Kanu and Wigan’s Shaun Maloney are a handful that could add something to many Premier League squads for a relatively small fee.
Here are six players who could potentially be next season’s bargain buy:
The French midfielder has been absolutely fantastic this season for QPR. He has made it clear that he wants to leave the club after relegation and may consider a move back to France. He would be a great addition to any team bringing steel, determination and grit. M’bia would sure up any midfield in the Premier League. He would be able for a small fee however, many clubs may not be able to afford him due to high wage demands.
The Celtic striker has been in prolific form this season scoring goals which helped Celtic to the Scottish Premier League title and a good run in the Champions League. He would fit perfectly into any team and will have no problem adapting to the English game. In January Hooper was subjected to interest from Norwich however, it fell through. The uncapped Englishman can provide vital goals and will not break the budget of any mid table Premier League side looking to improve their firepower for next season
The Wigan midfielder has excelled this season. His passing, movement and vision have been excellent. His best performance of the season came against Milwall in the FA Cup semi-final where he controlled the game from start to finish. He is a great creative player for any team needing that extra spark. With Wigan consigned to relegation he will probably be willing to move to a bigger club for a small fee.
The Swansea defender has been outstanding this campaign. He was a rock at the back for an ever-developing Swansea side seeing them through so many tough games. His credentials were magnified during the Capital One Cup run this season. He showed the leadership skills of a top class player and the maturity of a player who had been at the top level for a long time. It would reportedly cost to prize him away from Swansea especially because the club is on the up, however it would be a fantastic signing for any club.
Hal Robson Kanu
Reading have not had the best of seasons in Premier League struggling for points. However, Robson Kanu has been the stand out player. Most of his performances have come from the bench and his performance in Reading’s 4-2 win showed his potential. Cardiff are already monitoring the situation and he could be available for a relatively small fee aimed at smaller clubs.
The big Belgian has been an absolute sensation this season. His goals have propelled Aston Villa away from the drop zone. He is still also very young and has time to mature. He has shown strength and a fantastic finishing ability. Would be an asset to any teams strike force. The fee he would command would scare away most clubs but the top four would consider him a bargain if they can get him for under £20 million.
