Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain would have to pay €1 billion to acquire the services of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer transfer window, according to Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos.

Ronaldo has been linked with a transfer away from the Santiago Bernabeu all season, with Manchester United and PSG credited with harbouring the most serious interest in claiming the signature of the Portugal captain.

The latest report claims PSG are leading Manchester United in the race to land Ronaldo this summer, with the French champions willing to pay him €18 million-a-year in the hope he would choose a transfer to the Parc des Princes over Old Trafford.

Manchester United supporters, meanwhile, have started a fund encouraging as many people to donate £10 each to a pot in order to fund a swoop for the 28-year-old former Red Devils superstar.

Ramos, however, believes it would take far more than the £100 million Manchester United fans intend to raise in their Ronaldo transfer funds, and expects it would take a significantly greater fee to prise the player away from Real Madrid.

"You have to see which club has €1bn to pay what he is worth," Ramos told reporters.

"He should be in Madrid and he is happy here."
