Yeovil hold off Brentford to secure Championship dream

Yeovil Town will play in the Npower Championship next season after beating Brentford 2-1 in the League One play-off final.

First-half goals from Paddy Madden and James Hayter proved to be the difference, with Harlee Dean's second-half header proving to be nothing more than a consolation at Wembley.

Yeovil were quickest out of the blocks, and made the advantage pay when Madden scored a stunning 20-yard effort with the outside of his right foot.

Hayter doubled the advantage just before half-time, scoring from close range after Dan Burn had nodded a corner back across goal.

The interval sparked the Bees into life however, and Dean cut the advantage early in the period with a free header from ten-yards.

Uwe Rosler's side continued to press and dominated possession for the final half hour, but couldn't convert as man-of-the match Marek Stech made a number of fine saves.

His best was to deny Clayton Donaldson from another corner, with Bradley Wright--Phillips unable to bundle home the rebound under pressure.

Sam Saunders breathed life into Brentford following his introduction off the bench, but couldn't create a goal that would have forced extra-time.

Gary Johnson's side now move to the second tier for the first time in their history, whilst Brentford are left to reflect on what might have been having missed a penalty to gain promotion in the final minute of the regular season.
