David Beckham is expected to return to the USA as an owner of his own club, after talks between his advisors and league executives.
Beckham announced his retirement last Thursday and is now looking to launch his club. His contract at LA Galaxy included an option to purchase an 'expansion franchise', while his advisors have held talks with the league about possible locations for a new team.
"There have been discussions with his advisors, his management, preliminary discussions." MLS executive vice-president of communications, Dan Courtemanche said. "It is one of many markets that has been mentioned, so have other markets".
Major League Soccer wants to add a 20th club in New York City with Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour reported as the likely buyer.
This means Beckham will be unable to have his club in New York City.
When it was first revealed in 2009 that Beckham had an option to own his own team, he said: "It will happen eventually". And last year he said: "I have the option of owning a franchise, and that excites me".
Major League Soccer are currently trying to finalise the deal for the New York City team, but talks with Beckham's advisers are expected to continue.
"At some point in time he will exercise that option and we can go through the process of making sure it is the perfect fit for David and Major League Soccer but we are not there yet." said Courtemanche.
Beckham made an emotional final appearance for PSG at the weekend, as the Ligue 1 champions recorded a 3-1 win over Brest.
