Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur striker target Alvaro Negredo will only leave Sevilla for Champions League football.

The remarks from agent Juanma Lopez means Spurs are now out of the race to land the Spanish international, after they finished fifth in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners beat their north London rivals to fourth, and could now look to lure the player to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.

However, the 27-year-old won’t come cheap, with Sevilla only willing to sell for the minimum fee release clause in his contract - believed to be just under £20million.

"We are calm and at the end of the season, we will look at things but the choice lies with Sevilla," Lopez told Sky Sports.

"He would only accept an offer from a club that is in the Champions League."

Negredo has been in fine form for Sevilla once again this season, scoring 20 goals in a generally disappointing La Liga campaign for the club. It’s the seventh consecutive season he’s hit double figures.

Spurs are short of attacking options at White Hart Lane, with Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor the only senior attacking options for Andre Villas-Boas.

Negredo would have added an extra attacking option for Tottenham Hotspur, but they now appear to have no chance of signing the striker.

Arsenal, on the other hand, have football at Europe’s top table to offer, and could also do with another striker.

Olivier Giroud is the only striker at Wenger’s disposal, with Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski also playing through the middle when required for the Gunners.

Negredo would add strong competition for a starting spot up-front, but the Arsenal boss will have to spend big to bring the player to the club – something he’s rarely done in the past.
