Arsenal have gone from regular title contenders to top four challengers in the space of half a decade. Arsenal's so called 'star' players have been leaving the club regularly, derailing Arsenal's title hopes.
Today, Arsene Wenger's side are not considered genuine title contenders, but what can they do to make their situation better? For starters, they should spend more in the transfer window. Here's a look at three problem positions for the Gunners.
This season we have seen that Bacary Sagna has not been at his best and is looking to leave Arsenal. His performances have been poor and there is a need for a good and reliable right-back at the Emirates.
Carl Jenkinson is a decent option but a loan spell would do him good as he'll gain more experience. A steady defence is needed to challenge for the title and Wenger could look in the Premier League itself for an affordable and decent addition.
Sascha Riether of Fulham has been a revelation this term - he is good going forward and equally as competent defending. He is proven in the England's top tier and could solve Arsenal's problems at the back.
Arsenal have not replaced Alex Song - Mikel Arteta is Arsenal's makeshift defensive midfielder but his services should be provided further forward. Wenger is known to find young talent from Ligue 1 and they currently have some of the best young defensive midfielders around.
Etienne Capoue could be a potential target for the Gunners - Capoue is now a regular starter for France and will only improve Arsenal's squad. Recent reports have linked the 24-year-old with a £10m move to the Emirates, with Wenger himself admitting that he almost secured the Toulouse star back in January.
Olivier Giroud is a good striker, but not good enough. To challenge for the title Arsenal need a player who can score 25 goals in all competitions regularly. Using Podolski mainly as a winger, they need a striker to fire in the goals. Gonzalo Higuain is a proven goalscorer in Spain and could blend in well with the Premier League - his excellent finishing could help complete some of Arsenal's intricate passing moves that they have become renowned for under Wenger.
Do you agree that Arsenal need to strengthen? And what positions do you think should be a priority for Wenger this summer? Have your say and leave a comment in the box provided below.
