Manchester United miss out on 'next Cristiano Ronaldo'

Manchester United looked to have missed out on Porto starlet James Rodriguez, with Monaco reportedly sealing a deal for the talented youngster.

The talented 21-year-old has earned himself a reputation as one of the most promising youngsters in Europe, and helped Porto steal the Portuguese league title from under Benfica's nose this term.

The Red Devils have been repeatedly linked with a move for Rodriguez - dubbed the next Cristiano Ronaldo thanks to his lightning-quick pace - in the past, but reports suggest Monaco have sealed a deal for the young Colombian, along with Porto team-mate Joao Moutinho, worth £59 million.

While Manchester United's transfer policy is unclear given the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, it was only back in April that it was suggested that Rodriguez could be on his way to Old Trafford.

Now Sky Italia claim that the Ligue 1 outfit have reached an agreement with the Portuguese champions to pay £59 million for the pair.

Monaco are backed by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev and are set to splash the cash this summer.

Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao is said to be close to a move to the principality.
