Real Madrid are eyeing up a move for Chelsea defender David Luiz if they lose Pepe to Manchester City, though Barcelona are also interested.

According to the Daily Express, the Santiago Bernabeu club are preparing contingency plans for the eventuality of Pepe going elsewhere and Luiz tops their list of replacements.

It was announced on Tuesday that Jose Mourinho would be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season, but he may not be the only one as Pepe’s falling out with his compatriot could have pushed him towards the exit door.

Chelsea are unlikely to be willing to let David Luiz go after a vast improvement in form throughout the season.

However, the report claims Portuguese press believe a bid just below £30million should be enough to prise the 26-year-old away from Stamford Bridge.

Luiz has been one of Chelsea’s star performers since Rafael Benitez was given the job of interim manager, playing both in central midfield and central defence.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are reportedly looking to bolster their squad in order to win back their Premier League title next year.

The report claims Pepe is one of the Etihad Stadium club’s top summer targets and would set them back somewhere in the region of £17million.
