Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele believes his side can mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title next season - if they can pick up more points against the smaller teams in the league.
Spurs missed out on a top four finish this season by a single point to rivals Arsenal, despite a record Premier League points haul.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas pointed to the late turnaround against Everton in December as his side's key loss of the season, but Dembele believes Spurs dropped their guard against lesser opposition which cost them dear.
Dropped points against two relegated sides, QPR and Wigan, as well as a disheartening home defeat against Fulham damaged Tottenham's pursuit of Champions League football, and Dembele believes that if they can address the issue, and sign some new players, a title tilt could be on the cards.
"I'm never shy to say that I believe in everything. So if we start well next year, you never know," the Belgian international told reporters.
"Maybe if some good players come in, then it's a different season. There's a chance, why not?"
"We dropped a lot of points against the bottom teams. Against the good teams we can make the difference.
Spurs racked up eight points against the top three teams in the Premier League this season, six more than rivals Arsenal managed.
"So maybe we have to be aware next year as well, these are the games for us that are very difficult - the small games," Dembele explained.
"That's the thing maybe we have to look out for. Of course, that's the sign of a strong side. That's something that comes with experience as well.
"If there is a bottom team here, maybe we are too relaxed and think, 'OK, we are going to win'.
"Maybe that's the reason (we missed out on the top four). The thing is, we are close because against the top teams we are good. I think, 'They are not better than us'.
"But against the small teams, it's like, 'OK, the top teams would finish this'."
