Arsenal dealt blow in Fiorentina striker race

Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic after his agent revealed he would prefer to stay in Italy.

The Montenegrin is said to be on Arsenal's transfer hit-list this summer, although Fiorentina's £25 million asking price is said to have left the Gunners considering their options.

Juventus have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, who scored 13 times in Serie A this season as Fiorentina narrowly missed out Champions League qualification.

Arsenal may be forced to concede defeat in the race against the Italian champions after Jovetic's agent Fali Ramadani confirmed he would prefer to remain in Italy rather than move abroad.

"Stevan would prefer to remain in Serie A rather than moving to new a country," he told Novosti.

Meanwhile Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella has admitted Jovetic could be on the move in the summer - but only if one of his suitors pays 'the right price'.

"I am aware that Jovetic could go away, if a suitable offer comes to us," said the former Roma forward.

"He is a great talented player and he may have different ambitions.

"If someone is ready to pay the right price for him then I know there is the possibility of a transfer.

Arsenal appear to be working on alternatives should they fail to land Jovetic.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain - although once again Juventus are believed to be interested.
