Novak Djokovic tipped to topple Rafael Nadal by Boris Becker

Boris Becker believes Novak Djokovic will have enough to see off the resurgent Rafael Nadal and win his first Franch Open title.

Nadal has been in sensational form since returning from a long-term knee injury this year, winning six of the eight tournaments he has entered and finishing runner-up in the other two.

Understandably, this has led many to predict that the world number four is on course for a record-equalling eighth title at Roland Garros.

However, six-time Grand Slam winner Becker believes Djokovic has what it takes to see off the Spaniard for glory in Paris.

"Nadal has had quite a sensational comeback," Becker told ESPN.

"Who would have thought at the start of February that, by the middle of May he'd almost be the best player of the year with Djokovic?

"Nadal has won the French Open seven times. That's a pretty good record. The question mark was at Christmas, was he going to come back, is his knee going to be strong enough?

"Having said that, you can never underestimate Djokovic. He is the No. 1 player for a reason and he's the only player that has beaten Nadal on clay this spring [in Monaco].

“I think it could be another rematch of last year's final between the two."

While Djokovic defeated Nadal in Monaco, he has been struggling with an inkle injury in recent weeks and there were doubts over whether he would go to Roland Garros fully fit.

Djokovic will also have to deal with Nadal in buoyant mood after he dismantled Roger Federer in the final of the Italian Open in Rome last week, where the Spaniard looked every inch the King of clay.

Qualification is already under way in Paris and the tournament proper will begin on Sunday morning.
